Volunteering with Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK

I’ve been volunteering with Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK, or SHH-UK, since September 2024. I’m a Video Producer and edited some content for them on their Youtube page as well as their website. So I wanted to share a little bit of that today.

For those who don’t know, SHH-UK is a charity that offers support and advice to NHS workers suffering with Long Covid. I found them via Reach Volunteering, when I was freshly made redundant and still finding my feet with freelancing. I wanted to use my skills for a good cause, whilst also getting experience in a field outside of television. Since I lost a friend to Covid and also suffer with recurring health issues myself, the charity seemed like a good fit.

So far I’ve edited a few YouTube shorts for them, promoting campaigns and messaging. Last month I edited a long form video that helps NHS nurses with the revalidation process; what to do and how to make it as stress free as possible. You can read the article and see the video here.

They also have a monthly newsletter, to provide updates on the charity’s goals, as well as promote their volunteers, and for February, I was the volunteer of the month! A little teaser can be found in the image below.

I’m very proud of what I managed to accomplish with SHH-UK so far, and I hope to continue to help their cause in the near future.
